As more and more Americans find themselves battling with their weight, the amount of chronic disease we’re faced with is paralleling its rise. Today nearly seventy percent of our adult population is now considered overweight, and over one third are actually deemed clinically obese. (1)

Equally so, child obesity has risen from a mere four percent just twenty five years ago to now over thirty percent and growing rapidly as well. (2,3)

While all of this unfolds, very few experts seem to be focusing their efforts on solutions that have the ability to combat, or reverse, this already runaway train.

Back in 1982 the American Medical Association (AMA), American Heart Association (AHA) and the USDA put out new dietary guidelines for Americans. The guidelines recommended that Americans reduce the total percentage of fat in their diet from 40% to 30% in an effort to combat heart disease and the growing obesity epidemic. (4)

Over the course of the following ten years we indeed achieved lowering our total consumption of fat to 30%. This has been clearly pointed out by Dr. Robert Lustig, renowned Pediatric Endocrinologist and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSA) in many of his reports, yet heart disease and obesity continued to skyrocket.

By the year 2000 we were in a full blown epidemic that Dr. Mark Hyman has now labeled Diabesity.

Americans are now some of the most sick and over-weight people in the world – leading in obesity and metabolic syndrome: a cluster of inter-connected disorders that puts us at a high risk factor for Heart Disease and Diabetes, yet our focus is continually turned toward Tobacco, Alcohol and Gun Control even though a poor diet kills more Americans every single year than all three of those issues put together. (567)

There is now insurmountable evidence, all pointing in the same direction, as to the causes of the many chronic issues many suffer from, yet the Processed Food Giants, Big Agribusiness and Big Pharma all turn the other way, knowing it will cost their bottom-line billions to come clean and change the damage already done.

As we look over the landscape of our past, the future certainly doesn’t look any brighter. For the first time in recorded history the lifespan of our future generation is deemed shortened by as much as ten years.  Yes, our life expectancy is actually declining, making it clearly evident that what’s at hand as our so- called fix isn’t working, and indeed, is not a solution but rather a mere bandage for this mass epidemic so large most of us can’t even comprehend it. (89)

Although not our personal fault due to the misinformation and lack of education provided by our so called “trusted resources”, there is only one clear path to recovery from this now new social epidemic known as “Diabesity”.

We must change the relationship we have with the processed man-made creations that have now become the (staples) in many of our everyday diets, and use a new (real food) approach as the catalyst to eat our way out of the very epidemic that we’ve eaten our way into.

Stop Dieting & Start Eating

Did you ever sit back and wonder why even though more people are dieting and exercising today than at any other time in history we’re actually getting fatter and sicker as a result and not leaner and healthier?

“Our body is biology not math. That’s why when I hear things like a “calorie is a calorie” or it’s all about “calories in vs. calories out” I shake my head knowing that the human body is much more complex than a simple math equation”. — Coach Tony

Tony’s introduction into the world of health and fitness began in the summer of 1969 at the very early age of 8. He says “I can remember (like it was yesterday) picking up my first copy of Joe Weider’s Muscle Builder magazine, which is now known as Muscle & Fitness” and being completely enthralled by muscles. “I would literally fantasize about having muscles like the men in that magazine”. As he journeyed through life, those thoughts never left his mind. This was Tony’s beginning of what would become a lifelong journey into the world of fitness and nutrition.

Over the following four decades Tony has spent his time in the health and fitness industry as a competitive athlete, trainer, nutrition coach, educator, speaker, publisher and author.

In his competitive years, Tony became fascinated, biologically, with how nutrition and the foods we consumed had a profound effect on performance, body composition and over-all blood chemistry, as well as, state of mind. “These laws governed by the food /body relationship were completely different from what I had been taught about conventional mainstream nutrition”.

Over the past 30 years Tony has devoted his time to educating, coaching and mentoring people to take charge of their own health’s destiny.

He says “As we continue to listen to outdated nutritional advice, it’s clearly evident that our approach has completely missed the mark proven by the fact that society is getting bigger and sicker as a result, not leaner and healthier”.

Tony has been a dedicated writer, blogger and educator, and has spent time writing for several publications and national websites as a health advocate on topics including nutrition, fitness, chronic disease prevention and personal
